The town of Wesson was named for James Madison Wesson, Sr., who built a large cotton mill in the town in 1864.

ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR
Naomi Chapter No. 3 Order of the Eastern Star was chartered by the General Grand Chapter on May 17, 1897. When the Mississippi Grand Chapter was formed in 1906, it continued under the same name and number. It was defunct by 1908.
Friendship Chapter No. 64 Order of the Eastern Star was chartered in 1909. It was defunct by 1919.
William Oliver Chapter No. 176 was chartered around 1921. Additional information is still being researched.
