Starting in 2005 Groundspeak/Geaching HQ started making geocoins and other trackables to give to their volunteers. The volunteers perform various functions such as reviewers and interpreters.
The first coin was produced in 2005. In 2008 there started an annual issue of some type of trackable. Around 2010 a carabiner style watch was given out that later each reviewer was given a tracking number to engrave into.
