Illinois Central Railroad Cabooses

This page lists the known locations or dispositions of cabooses formerly owned by the Illinois Central Railroad. Unless listed otherwise, each car is steel or steel over wood. Cupola without further definition indicates the cupola is located on one end of the car. A standard cupola is located in the center of the car, but does not extend over the sides. Wide Vision indicates the cupola is in the center of the car and extends over the side of the car. Also listed are shoving platforms made from cabooses and other cars. Cabooses that came from the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio as part of the ICG merger are listed on the GM&O Caboose page.

IC 9451-9550 were steel underframe 29’10” non-cupola caboose built in 1936. The last three were scrapped or sold between 1963 and 1971. The included C&IW #1 and 2.

IC 9650-9956 were steel underframe Drovers caboose built between 1897 and 1913. The last five were scrapped or sold between 1963 and 1971. Sometime between 1955 & 1963 they were reclassified as Banana Messengers.
