The first known burial in the Bogue Chitto Cemetery is that of Anna Belle Thompson. The daughter of Alexander Ephraim Thompson and Coriolanus Ann Pepper Thompson died at age 7 on September 26, 1876 and was buried on land owned by the Sutton family.
In 1880 the Sutton family deeded all of what was described as Block 9 Suttons Addition, Porters Survey to the Town of Bogue Chitto for use as a cemetery.
In 1906 the Town established an ordinance placing control of the cemetery in the hands of the Bogue Chitto Cemetery Association. A group that still manages the cemetery. Anyone owning a lot in the cemetery may be a member of the association.
